Angel Reese’s moment of fury after being grabbed by the hair by Bria Hartley: She fights against everyone

Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky entered Sunday’s matchup with the Connecticut Sun in a tough spot, having lost their last three games by an average of 21.3 points.  With a 2-7 record, frustration was high, and it showed during the game when Reese found herself at the center of a heated confrontation with Sun guard Bria Hartley.  The incident occurred during a rebound attempt late in the first half. As both players jostled for position, Hartley grabbed Reese’s hair, sparking an immediate reaction from the Sky standout. Reese quickly turned toward Hartley and confronted her face-to-face, visibly upset by the hair pull.

Tensions escalated when Sun center Olivia Nelson-Odoba intervened to separate the players, only to have Reese shove her aside. This action led to a further commotion, with cameras capturing Sun veteran Tina Charles shouting toward Reese as the scene became increasingly chaotic  The officials had to step in to restore order, issuing technical fouls to both Reese and Nelson-Odoba for unsportsmanlike conduct. Hartley, on the other hand, was only called for a common foul for the hair pull, which left some questioning whether the referees missed the severity of the incident.  Despite the conflict, the players were able to refocus, and the game continued, though the scuffle lingered in the air.

Reese’s performance amid the drama

Despite the on-court drama, Reese continued to deliver one of her best performances of the season. She tied her career-high with five assists in the first half alone, showcasing her playmaking ability while helping keep the Sky competitive against the Sun. Her contributions in the first half were pivotal in keeping the game within reach for Chicago, who were looking to snap their losing streak.  In addition to her assists, Reese scored efficiently, contributing 17 points in a recent loss to the Liberty earlier in the week, showing signs of growth after facing some early-season criticism.

Reese’s performance in the game may have been overshadowed by the scuffle, but it was clear that she refused to let the altercation derail her focus. Her ability to shake off the frustration and continue playing at a high level was a testament to her resilience.  The confrontation with the Sun was just another chapter in what has been a season full of intense moments for Reese, who has faced criticism not only for her performance but also for a previous spat with Caitlin Clark back in May.

However, this latest incident highlights Reese’s fiery nature on the court, a quality that makes her a key player for the Sky, no matter the circumstances.  As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how both teams handle such tensions and whether moments like these fuel or hinder their performance on the court.
