WNBA Posts One-Word Message After Chicago Sky’s Historic Announcement

Thursday was quite an eventful one for the Chicago Sky. Not only did the team and new head coach Tyler Marsh get their first win of the season after four straight losses, but they also witnessed history from Courtney Vandersloot.  Vandersloot entered the game against the Dallas Wings needing just nine points to surpass her wife, Allie Quigley, for the all-time scoring record in franchise history. Quigley scored 3,723 points during her 10 seasons with the franchise from 2013 to 2022.

The veteran point guard scored her eighth and ninth points of the game in the third quarter off a 15-foot pullup jumper. Vandersloot finished the contest with 13 points, as she helped the Sky secure the 97-92 victory.  The Sky, for their part, celebrated Vandersloot’s milestone right after she achieved it. In a post on Instagram, the team shared an edited photo calling the playmaker the “franchise leading scorer.”  “SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!” the Sky wrote in the caption. “Courtney Vandersloot has officially become the Chicago Sky’s all-time scoring leader passing her wife, Allie Quigley.”  As the Chicago faithful celebrated the moment, the WNBA also chimed in and shared a short but powerful comment to describe Vandersloot.

While Vandersloot signed with the Sky during the past offseason, she actually started her career with the franchise. The Sky selected her as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 draft.  The 36-year-old played for Chicago for 12 seasons before joining the New York Liberty in 2023. She won a championship with both teams.  It’s also worth noting that Vandersloot is already the Sky’s leader in assists, steals and field goals attempted and made. Sure enough, she’s poised to set more team records as the 2025 season progresses.
