Historic Taylor Swift Announcement Draws Major Attention on Thursday

There isn’t an icon in the music industry quite like Taylor Swift. While her 2025 has been relatively low-key so far for someone of her stature, she continues to make waves with her music despite having no new releases this year.  Earlier this week, there was speculation she would attend the American Music Awards, but she ultimately did not show up and lost all six of her nominations, most of which went to Billie Eilish.  Nonetheless, Swift remains the most successful musician in AMA history, having won a record 40 awards over the years.

Following the AMAs, some historic news emerged about the 35-year-old singer and songwriter. On Thursday, according to “SpotifySwiftie,” Swift became the first female artist in Spotify history to have multiple self-written songs reach over one billion streams. Both Lover (2019) and her iconic hit Love Story (2008) have surpassed this milestone on the platform.

It seems like every day Taylor Swift is making some kind of history with her music. On Friday, her hit album “The Tortured Poets Department” — released in 2024 and a staple of her record-breaking Eras Tour performances — surpassed 1.2 billion streams in 2025 alone, making it her first album to reach that milestone this year.  It’s still unclear when or if Swift will release new music in 2025, but anticipation from her fanbase is high, with many believing something is brewing. Whether that’s genuine optimism or wishful thinking, there’s still plenty of time this year for her to drop something big — something she’s known to do when no one expects it.
