Buckingham Palace has announced sad news about Prince Harry: he required help from MI6 to address his mental health issues. MI6 is the United Kingdom’s Intelligence Service, and in it, Harry found his greatest confidant. Since it is an organization that guarantees the privacy of its actions, Meghan’s husband felt completely safe.  Prince Harry’s mental imbalances began shortly after Lady Di died. At just 12 years old, he developed a strong character full of anger and confrontations. It was his then partner and his family who advised him to seek help from a specialist, and he found it in MI6.

Buckingham Palace confirms Prince Harry’s issues

Prince Harry has always been the most unruly and problematic figure at Buckingham Palace. His scandals and his nights out, where violence and excesses were the real protagonists, were widely known. In the midst of this whirlwind of destruction, Harry’s inner circle reacted and intervened to put a stop to the spiral he was in.  Buckingham Palace has just confirmed the mental health issues the young prince struggled with after Lady Di’s death. Behavioral disorders led him to seek help from MI6, the United Kingdom’s Intelligence Service. This organization has a large number of professionals who keep strict silence about all their actions.

In his search for help, Harry turned to MI6 therapists, as mentioned in the book The Palace Papers by Tina Brown. This decision was motivated by the need to find professionals who would guarantee the discretion necessary for someone in his position. There, he found support from Julia Samuel, his mother’s friend and a counselor specializing in grief, who helped him face his pain.  A few years ago, it was Prince Harry himself who acknowledged the mental health issues he went through when his mother died. At 12 years old, Harry faced a devastating loss that deeply affected his emotional well-being. For years, he repressed his emotions, which led him to experience anxiety, panic attacks, and self-destructive behaviors in his youth.

In the documentary The Me You Can’t See, Harry spoke about how alcohol and drug use was a way to mask his pain. He recognizes that, in retrospect, these behaviors were attempts to escape his unprocessed emotions.

Brown recounts in her book how one of Prince Harry’s first partners experienced his mental health issues up close. Sources close to Buckingham Palace confirmed that the young woman advised him to “accept his issues and consult with a psychoanalyst.”  Thanks to this, Harry managed to redirect the situation, coming to recognize that his bad behavior was a response to his need not to think about his mother. In addition to this therapy, Harry explored methods such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a technique used to treat deep trauma.

This allowed him to address painful memories and reduce the anxiety associated with past events, such as flights to London that reminded him of his mother’s loss. Through these practices, Harry has achieved a greater understanding of himself and has strengthened his emotional state.

Harry has also highlighted the cultural differences regarding mental health between the United Kingdom and the United States. He has pointed out that, while in the U.S. it is common to speak openly about therapy, in the United Kingdom a stigma persists that makes it difficult for people to seek help.  Fortunately, in his case, the quick reaction of his inner circle enabled the young prince to redirect the situation. To this day, he continues to put certain recommendations into practice to help relieve his situation in case of anxiety or distress.
